Objective To explore the relationship between secondary school students’ internet usage and social psychology, and to provide a theoretical basis for solving the problem of internet addiction. Methods A total of 231 secondary school students were selected as research objects, and 229 valid questionnaires were retrieved (effective rate was 99.13%). Among them, there are 97 boys and 134 girls, with an average age of 18 ± 1 years. Students were tested using general information questionnaires, internet addiction scales and symptom self-rating scales. The results judged mild Internet addicts accounted for 6.98% of the subjects, judging that the network overuse accounted for 14.41% of the subjects. Internet addiction scale score and male, computer science related, and all the factors between SCL-90 were positively correlated, there are statistically significant differences. Multivariate linear regression analysis found that men, computer science, psychotic factors and hostility were the risk factors influencing internet use. Conclusion The network usage of secondary school students is closely related to the psychosocial factors. Preventing internet addiction should start from the gender and individual psychological characteristics.
