今天的人们大概只知道苏州是著名的水城,号称“东方威尼斯”,其实,扬州亦是历史上著名的水上都会。隋唐时期,扬州城内河道纵横,桥梁众多,这在唐诗的描绘中可见一斑:“入郭登桥出郭船”、“月明桥上看神仙”、“二十四桥明月夜”、“城锁东风十五桥”等等,不胜枚举。后来,随着城池的变迁,原有河道桥梁或填或拆,其桥大多空留其名,至今城内留有不少以桥命名的街巷,如得胜桥、辕门桥、蒋家桥、宛虹桥等。
