高句丽墓葬根据外部形态的不同可以分为积石墓与封土墓两大类,前者的总体流行时代要早于后者,而内部构造上石室的出现则是相对最晚的。高句丽都城曾两迁三治,初治辽宁桓仁,后徙于吉林集安,公元427年又迁都平壤。高句丽墓葬中积石墓与封土墓在我国集安地区均有大量发现,而与此不同的是,朝鲜境内的高句丽墓葬则以封土石室墓为主,积石墓相对较少,这与高句丽势力较晚时期才植根朝鲜半岛西北部有密切关
