当过去分词或过去分词短语用作状语时,有时根据语义的需要可以在其前加上相应的从属连词,比较常见的有when,while,as,if,unless,although,though,even if,even though,once等。如:
Although exhausted by the climb,he continued his journey. 他虽然爬得很累,但他仍继续前进。
Although never married,they lived together as husband and wife for fifty years. 虽然从未结婚,但他们像夫妻一样在一起生活了50多年。
He had failed to visit her as promised. 他没有按他的诺言来看望她。
As scheduled they met on January 20. 按计划他们在1月20日聚会了。
It usually happens as described above. 情况通常就像上面描述的那样发生了。
As expected,the forestation movement rapidly spread. 正像预料的那样,造林运动迅速展开。
The lad started as if awakened from a dream. 这小伙子一惊,仿佛从梦中惊醒似的。
He was speeding down the motorway as if pursued by a demon. 他在公路上高速行驶,就像有魔鬼在追赶他似的。
注:as though有时也可这样用。如:
She smiled,as though solaced by the memory. 她笑了,仿佛在往事的回忆中得到了安慰。
He will come if asked. 如果请他,他会来的。

1. 在after,before,since等之后不能直接跟过去分词,而需用“being 过去分词”。如:
在我们得知飞机要推迟起飞后,我们另作了安排。
正:After we were informed the flight would be delayed,we made other arrangements.
正:After being informed the flight would be delayed,we made other arrangements.
误:After informed the flight would be delayed,we made other arrangements.
2. 用作状语的“连词 过去分词”结构,通常可视为状语从句的省略形式。如:
While (she was) locked up in prison,she wrote her first novel. 她在狱中写出了她的第一部小说。
Although (it was) built before the war,the engine is still in perfect order. 尽管是战前制造的,这台发动机仍然处于良好状态。
Once (it is) exposed to light,the film will be damaged and get useless. 一旦曝光,胶卷就要被损坏而不能用了。
