刘熙载尝言:“真率二字,最为难得,陶诗所以过人者在此。”言尽而意不尽。何为真率?简单地讲,即是不矫情、不刻意做作。陶,即指陶渊明。《南史·陶潜传》载:“贵贱造之者,有酒则设;潜若先醉,便语客:‘我醉欲眠,卿可去。’其真率如此。”可见陶公真率。刘熙载在《诗概》中谈道:“诗可数年不作,不可一作不真。陶渊明自庚子距丙辰十七年间,作诗九首,其诗之真,更须问耶?”足见陶公酝酿之深,亦足见其之真性情。刘熙载在《昨非集》中还有关于真率的论述:“古人书质,余观愈美。后人书妍,余乃不喜。笔墨之外,具辨神理。余偶作
