十月革命以后,大批俄国难民背井离乡流亡到了国外,包括到了中国上海。在上海,这些俄国难民只能在逆境中生存,与其他外国人不同,他们是政治流亡者。因此,无法享有中外条约之中赋予外国人的特权,他们中的绝大多数人既不会说英语,也不通汉语,而且他们大部分人出身贵族,很难从事体力劳动,因此,俄侨无法与中国劳工竞争,也无法在外资企业当中找到体面的工作。据1929年的统计,当时,上海所有犯罪的外籍人当中,俄国侨民占到了85%,到1935年,在16岁至45岁的白俄女性当中,有22%的人在上海从事色情行业。电影《伯爵夫人》就生动地描述了前苏联十月革命后,一个出身贵族的白俄女伯爵和家人逃往中国上海,为了支持难民家庭,最后沦为舞女,终身落魄的故事。影片里的故事和当年真实的情况非常相似。故事中不仅有落魄公爵索菲亚和失意外交官杰克逊凄美动人的爱情故事,而且还夹杂着日本间谍为准备武力侵略上海的阴谋。
After the October Revolution, a large number of Russian refugees left their homeland and went abroad to expedition, including to Shanghai, China. In Shanghai, these Russian refugees can only survive in adversity, unlike other foreigners who are political exiles. Therefore, the privilege accorded to foreigners in Chinese and foreign treaties can not be enjoyed. Most of them can not speak English nor can they speak Chinese. Most of them are aristocrats, so it is hard to engage in manual labor. Therefore, Competition with Chinese workers can not find decent jobs in foreign-funded enterprises. According to the 1929 statistics, Russians accounted for 85% of all criminal foreigners in Shanghai at that time. By 1935, 22% of Belarusian women between the ages of 16 and 45 were engaged in the sex industry in Shanghai. The film “The Countess” vividly described the story of a former aristocrat of the White Russian Earl and his family who escaped to Shanghai, China, after the October Revolution of the former Soviet Union, in order to support refugee families and finally become a dancing girl. The story in the movie is very similar to the real situation of the year. The story includes not only the beautiful and touching love story of the despotic duke Sophia and the displeased diplomat Jackson, but also a mixture of Japanese spies plotting to prepare force for the invasion of Shanghai.
