9月23日晚6时50分,内蒙古自治区丰镇市第二中学教学楼发生楼梯护栏坍塌事故,造成21名学生死亡、47名学生受伤。丰镇市二中是市属重点中学,有初中三个年级19个班,共1563名学生。9月23日,晚自习结束后,1500多名学生从东西两个楼道口,在没有任何照明的条件下,蜂拥下楼。在西楼道接近一楼的最后四五个台阶处,楼梯护栏突然坍塌,前面的学生纷纷扑倒在地,后面的学生看不清,仍然纷纷往前拥挤,酿成事故。
