《西园记》是明代剧作家吴炳的《粲花别墅五种》传奇之一。原本写襄阳才子张继华游学武林,偶入辞官隐居的赵氏西园中,巧遇他的故友孤女王玉真在红楼上采摘梅花,俩人一见钟情。张以为赵家花园都是赵家宅眷,因而误认王玉真为赵玉英。正巧玉英因错配豪门恶少王伯宁,饮恨捐生。张便以为她是思念自己而死,悲痛不已。后来张赶考高中,被赵氏挽留,假寓西园外宅。夜来思念玉英,连声呼唤其名,玉英之魂感念其情,又怕承认是鬼魂吓坏了张继华,就假冒玉真之名与张幽婚。赵氏夫妇在玉英病故后,就认玉真为义女。王伯宁听说玉真貌美,再三强求续亲。赵礼不愿让玉真重蹈玉英的复辙,想将玉真招赘张继华,不想张已与 “West Park in mind” is the Ming Dynasty dramatist Wu Bing’s “one of the five flowers” legend.
