非公路用车的不断改进和发展要求传动系统作相应的改进。底特律阿里逊公司1973年将为20~35短吨载重汽车及15~20立方码铲运机提供阿里逊 CLBT750全自动变速器。该变速器有五个前进档,其中2~5档为自动变速。设计中一方面发展了一个液压控制系统,使在发动机、车辆的各种速度、负荷工况下具有良好的换档性能,不管是由低档到高档还是由高档到低挡,都能保证换档的平顺,可靠。另一方面是发展了一个尺寸小、制动功率高、反应快的液力下坡减速器从而得到了车辆安全下坡的保证。下面叙述 CLBT750变速箱的设计和发展。
