Background: The Hunter Regional Pathology Service provides transfusion services to four cities and 11 rural hospitals in Australia. To improve blood availability, maintain blood stock availability and reduce cross-matching rates, a computerized blood distribution computerized blood distribution network (EBRS) for blood transfusion laboratories and areas far from transfusion laboratories was established.
