陶峙岳,1891年生于湖南宁乡县,1916年毕业于保定军官学校第三期,曾参加孙中山领导的同盟会和武昌起义。北伐时,任国民革命军团长。抗日战争爆发后,曾率部驰援上海,参加淞沪会战。此后历任国民党部队第一军军长、三十四集团军副总司令、三十七集团军总司令、河西警备总司令、西北军政长官公署副长官兼新疆警备总司令。1949年9月25日在新疆率部起义,为和平解放新疆、维护祖国统一作出了重要贡献。
Tao Zhiyue, born in Ningxiang County, Hunan Province in 1891, graduated from Baoding Military Academy in 1916 in the third period. He participated in the League led by Sun Yat-sen and the Wuchang uprising. During the Northern Expedition, he served as head of the Revolutionary Army. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, led his troops to speed Shanghai, to participate in the Battle of Shanghai. Since then he has served as commander of the first army unit of the Kuomintang forces, deputy commander-in-chief of the 34th Army Group, commander-in-chief of the 37th Army Group, commander-in-chief of the Hexi garrison and deputy commander of the Northwest Military and Administrative Office and commander in chief of Xinjiang Security. The uprising in the rate headquarters in Xinjiang on September 25, 1949 made an important contribution to the peaceful liberation of Xinjiang and the safeguard of the reunification of the motherland.
