I. INTRODUCTION Over the past two years we have evaluated the feasibility of culturing Pleurotus ostreatus (ATCC strain * 32078) from different types of pulp mills (pulp mill) (Mueller and Gawley. 1983). Extremely satisfactory results have been obtained using pulp cellulose residues from bleached kraft paper mills as media. We are recommending mushroom growers use the cellulose dregs as a cultivating material for cultivating Pleurotus ostreatus. These cellulose dregs are available free of charge at British Columbia paper mills. In addition, because these wastes are fairly pure in nature (cellulose), they are rarely contaminated with bacteria and are extremely suitable materials for the cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus. In discussing with mushroom farmers and foundations, one of the most frequently asked questions is: Is bleach kraft cellulose residue used as a cultivation material for Pleurotus ostreatus, organism chlorine accumulation in the mushrooms? Pleurotus whether accumulation of organic chlorine in waste?
