According to a report titled “Strategic Analysis of Thermometer Industry” published by Venture Development Co-rp. (VDC) in the United States, although the non-contact thermometer has many advantages, the application of the contact thermometer remains leading position. Infrared and optical temperature measurement instrument in fact the advantages are very prominent, but many users will continue to specify the use of contact test temperature meter. The report said that the contact temperature meter sales growth rate will exceed the non-contact temperature measuring instruments. Sales of contact-type electronic thermometers made from components such as thermocouples and thermistors are expected to increase from 50 million U.S. dollars in 1983 to 73 million U.S. dollars in 1987, an increase of 46 percent.
