翻开中国的交通图,将目光转向西部,你会发现,陇海线和宝成线在陕西的宝鸡交会,一条向西北走向兰州—新疆(兰新线),一条向西南驶入成都(宝成线),两条线形成了一个夹角,这夹角里面的部分,包括甘肃的定西、陇南、甘南,那是一块交通的死角。如果你再用笔把兰州和重庆两点用直线连起来,这条直线与宝成线交叉,形成X形,把西南和西北像龙骨一样嵌合在一起。它的总长是1165公里,是西北到西南最便捷的通道。这条直线,就是近两年西部人苦等探寻的兰渝铁路,但事实上,它并不存在。在这条线上,有3600万人,绝大部分都是贫穷的农民。在这条线上,集中着17个国家级贫困县。在这条线上,10万平方公里的土地,蕴藏和出产着数不尽的金、煤、铜和药材。修建兰渝铁路,打通西北西南大通道,一直是志士仁人的宏伟梦想。早在1917年,伟大的革命先行者孙中山先生就曾有过这样的实业计划,在近百年后它能否变成现实?本刊将和大家一起,带着对西部腾飞的梦想,再次追寻兰渝铁路。

As early as 1917, Sun Yat-sen, the great forerunner of the great revolution, once had such an industrial plan. Can it become a reality after nearly a hundred years?
