The central issue of the debate over medical technology costs Those who provide medical services to the American people are involved in a dispute with those who pay for a large number of medical services. Arguments surround issues such as the cost of modern medical technologies—especially new technologies, operations, devices, or instruments—and their place in the world. Since the 1973 mid-term CT scanner was announced as a milestone in the development of modern medicine, the argument that controlling the cost of medical services by restricting medical technology has become the central issue of debate. Now, this view is taken as a common sense, that is, by limiting the development, promotion or application of a few large and expensive new technologies, it is possible to substantially control medical treatment.
