国境卫生检疫的薰船,是一项防止鼠疫病传入和传出的卫生措施。它对于提高船舶的卫生水平和改善船员的生活条件等方面也有重要的意义。根据资料的记述,人类自从为了防止鼠疫病的流行,对国际船舶实施四十天的隔离观察,从而诞生了检疫以来的五百多年中,早已采用了薰船除鼠的方法。但是,在国际间订立国际卫生公约,统一规定对国际船舶必须定期实施鼠患检查,並根据检查的结果予以除鼠或免予除鼠,则是近半个多世纪以来的事情。我国曾是半封建半殖民地的社会,国境卫生检疫受过帝国主义者的支配,因而在检疫自主的初期,仍然可以见到留有外人的痕迹。例如第二次世界大战以后,我国有的港口有日本留下的装有一氧化炭发生器的汽船;一些检疫所则有美国的氰化钾等药物。这些都是为薰船
