With the increasing use of tropical fast-broad-leaved trees, vessel picking, which is caused by exfoliation of ductal cells, has become increasingly prominent. Hardwood pulp fibers contain ductal cells, which are large-diameter cells in the tree that serve to transport moisture; different hardwoods contain different numbers of ductal cells, with less than 10% high content, more than 50% . These large tubular duct cells easily come off the paper with a sticky ink, reducing the quality of offset printing. Problems caused by ductal cells mainly include hair loss on the paper machine, application of brushes or scratches on the coating, lint removal during printing operations and spots or voids in the printing process. Conventional methods to prevent hair loss include high-strength refining, screening with hydrocyclones, adding dry strength agents, and surface sizing. This study explored the use of biological enzymes to solve the new method of shedding, and demonstrated the advantages of this method through case studies.
