The main advantages of a long-acting contraceptive system are its high effectiveness and ease of use, and the absence of estrogen in this method significantly reduces side effects. In 1978 and 1979, Gupta and Odlind et al reported the development and clinical application of subcutaneous norethindrone (NET) pellets. This article reports the clinical experience of biodegradable NET-implanted pellets for 6 months, and observes the blood levels of NET, menstrual cycle, estradiol (E2), progesterone (P), side effects and contraceptive effects.
