中间势力是国共两党以外的有着共同政治倾向的政党、政团及民主人士的总称。中间势力的党派、社团在大革命失败后出现,并在反蒋抗日和救亡御侮的斗争中发展起来。到了土地革命战争时期,中间势力已表现颇为活跃,不仅已经开始出现了具有政党性质的中间势力组织,而且随着中间势力中不同政治要求和政治倾向的团体和个人逐步凝结,使民主党派的发展逐渐具备了政治上和组织上的基础。
