一对平行轴正齿轮啮合其接触为一条平行于齿向的直线;一对斜齿轮啮合其接触为一条斜直线,即齿面螺旋面的形成母线;斜齿轮与斜齿条啮合其接触也为一条斜直线,即斜齿轮齿面的形成母线。一对螺旋齿轮啮合其接触为一点。前者都称为线接触,而只有螺旋齿轮啮合称为点接触。然而,在齿轮受载后或加工中有一定切入量后,其齿面的接触情况都远非线或点的接触。而是一条颇为宽阔的带形接触区或一个不小的椭圆面接触区(图1)。
