从90年代初我国高速公路实现零的突破,短短10多年的时间,我国高速公路总里程已达到16000公里,仅次于美国和加拿大,我国以10多年的时间走过了西方国家需要40年才完成的发展路程,取得令人惊叹的举世瞩目的成就。 按照交通部加快以“五纵七横”为重点的公路国道主干线建设的规划,预计到2005年,我国的高速公路通车里程将达到25000公里,初步形成一个高速公路网络。在经济比较发达、高速公路发展势头较快的我国东部地区,预计到2005年,不少省份将初步建成四通八达的高速公路网络。例如浙江省计划到明年年底建成1300公里高速公路,实现省政府提出的杭州到各地级市“四小时公路交通圈”的目标。到2005年,全省将建成高速公路2000多公里,实现“省内成网、连接省外”的大交通战略。

By 2005, the province will build more than 2,000 kilometers of expressways and realize the major transportation strategy of “connecting the province with the network and connecting with the outside world”.
