何炳林是我国著名高分子化学家,今年8月满80岁,祖籍广东,早年就读于广州培正中学;陈茹玉是我国著名有机化学和农药化学家,今年9月满79岁,祖籍福建,出生于天津,毕业于天津省立第一女子中学。由于共同的志向,1938年,他们俩分别从一南一北两地同时考取了西南联大化学系,成为同班同学。1946年两人结为伉俪,一同来到南开大学化学系任教,1947年和1948年他们相继到美国继续求学,1952年两人同时获得美国印第安那大学博士学位,1956年,又一同返回祖国同时在南开大学任教授。1980年,他俩又以其卓越的学术成就,双双当选为中国科学院院士,成为中国化学界的“比翼鸟”,中国科学院屈指可数的伉俪院士。
He Binglin is a famous polymer chemist in China. He was 80 years old in August this year. He was originally from Guangdong and studied at Peizheng Middle School in Guangzhou. Chen Ruyu is a famous chemist and pesticide chemist in China. He was 79 years old this September and was born in Fujian Province. Tianjin, graduated from Tianjin Provincial First Women’s High School. Due to their common aspiration, in 1938, both of them respectively took the Chemistry Department of the Southwest Associated University from south to north, becoming the same classmate. In 1946 the two became husband and wife, came together to teach Chemistry Department of Nankai University, 1947 and 1948 they have to continue to study in the United States, 1952, both at the same time received a doctorate from the Indiana University, in 1956, together with the return to the motherland Nankai University professor. In 1980, with their outstanding academic achievements, both of them were elected as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and became one of the “favorite birds” in the Chinese chemical community and one of the few academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
