在中国很流行一个词叫“山寨版”，指假冒他人。而在英语习语里有一个表达“the real McCoy”，指真货、正品、地道的东西（“the real thing”or“the genuine article”）。
　　关于这个习语的起源众说纷纭。有人认为是由于一个工程师Elijah McCoy发明了一种能自动调节的润滑系统，没想到马上有很多劣质的仿冒品一窝蜂出现，使得消费者在购买时一再地询问，“is this the real McCoy？”
　　也有人说McCoy是指美国禁酒时期的酒品走私贩Bill McCoy，由于他走私的酒全无杂质品质很好，于是Bill McCoy 就成为“真货”的代名词。
　　更多的人认为此习语源于20世纪20年代美国拳击手Kid McCoy。真名为Norman Selby的美国拳击手，以Kid McCoy的名字在拳击场上大显身手。一天晚上，他穿着夜礼服到酒吧去会朋友，一醉汉对他出言不逊，并伸手一把抓住McCoy。McCoy心平气和地说他是McCoy，劝醉汉放开手。那醉汉不信，硬是不肯撒手，McCoy怒击一拳，打中醉汉下颚。几小时后，醉汉醒后发现自己胸部有一张McCoy的名片，他喃喃自语道：“He is the real McCoy.”由于McCoy是风靡一时的拳王，冒充者太多，他本人就自称为“Kid The Real McCoy”。因此，当我们要强调“如假包换的真货”时就会说the real McCoy。
