在革命回忆录和党史论著中,关于红军巧渡金沙江的渡船数目主要有二说:一说七只,如刘伯承《回顾长征》(《星火燎原》选编之三,战士出版社1980年版)、《红军长征在四川的战斗历程》(四川人民出版社1981年版),二说六只,如莫文骅《“五一”的前后》(《中国工农红军第一方面军长征记》,人民出版社1955年版)、《中国共产党史稿》第二分册,(人民出版社1983年版)。经查证、后一说是准确的。1935年5月上旬、中央红军除先遣队夺得的两只渡船外,又找到四只渡船,就是靠了这六只船,经过九天九夜的努力,极有秩序地胜利渡过金沙江。其主要根据和理由如下:
