  【Abstract】The key to learning English is to cultivate and improve the students’ listening, speaking, reading, writing skills. In the process of learning English, English listening is important. Listening is an important means to absorb and understand verbal information. It is an important learning ability .

  As a communication tool, English plays a very important role in people’s daily communication. The important purpose of students’ learning English is to express their ideas in English freely, to achieve the purpose of communication. Therefore, improving the students listening ability is an essential part of English learning in middle school. This paper tries to put forward some method to improve the English listening ability from the following aspects.
  1. Stimulate interest and develop good English learning habits
  The students will have a thirst for knowledge of English if the teachers can stimulate the interest of students. As the saying goes, interest is the best teacher. Listening is an active cognitive processing of information. It is combined with the language level of students. Confidence is an important factor for the lasting interest. Teachers should guide the students to improve their practical language ability, and provide them with interesting listening materials. Students can also take the initiative to listen to some listening materials and textbooks. At the beginning of the synchronization, the students can repeat the material several times to listen, until they can understand . Gradually, teachers should try to lessen the times of listening and try to find a little bit difficult material to practice.
  2. Do a good job in classroom teaching, improve the students’ English learning skills
  The teachers should create a good English atmosphere, and they should speak in English as much as possible when giving a lesson. This will let the students listen to English, feel the language information. Teachers should pay attention to improve their speech accomplishment. In the classroom, minimize the wrong pronunciation and reduce the local tone of voice.
  Teachers should make full use of the new teaching content which is close to life. And choose more useful teaching aids which are real, maps, brief strokes, multimedia and so on. With the popularity of the network, students have more opportunities to receive multimedia education. It can be used as an auxiliary network, such as English songs, English video introduction class. Each unit is equipped with a special teaching listening training, and they are good materials of listening training. In the everyday training, teachers should be based on the actual situation of the students. In addition, teachers should try to choose some faster speed listening materials for students when they are progressing, and take some time to do an intensive listening training every week.   3. To use the extra-curricular time effectively and strengthen the students’ listening training
  Teachers can give students some of the recording material which has the same degree of difficulty of the text. Encourage the students use their spare time to practice but they must arrange some comprehension questions to help listening, such as choice, judgment and fill in the missing words, and check the answers timely. This can improve the students’ listening ability in a certain extent.Teachers should guide the students to practice listening by many ways. For example, Try to carry out the listening dialogue, listen to listening materials and their text book, and make a record. The students should spend some time watching English TV programs, listening to different activities. At the same time, the teachers should set up the campus radio station which can play somethings that is familiar with the students. This information is easy to understand. In order to practice English listening, teachers should establish English club which can hold the second classroom activities.
  In short, the improvement of listening ability is not a short time can be achieved. It is a long-term process of accumulation. The students should listen more and train more. Gradually, their listening level can be improved.
