東北中部平原地區冬季嚴寒少雪,冬小麥常常不能安全越冬,有的年份甚至全部凍死。公主嶺在過去4年間,絕對最低氣温達-34.8℃(1950年1月6日),1953年1月會有6天在-30℃以下。爲了解决當地冬小麥的越冬問題,我們從1949年開始,根據李森科院士把春小麥改變爲冬小麥的理論和方法,企圖創造出具有高度越冬性,適合這一地區栽培的新冬麥品種。現在已獲得兩種由春小麥轉化成功的冬小麥。
