We conducted a study of manganese nodules and seabed sediments at a depth of 7-11 ° N and a temperature of 167-178 ° W. The author focuses on one of the main components - clay mineral. X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry and electron microscopy were used to identify the minerals below 2μm in this area. The results show that the clay minerals in the area are mainly illite, followed by montmorillonite, kaolinite and mudstone. The main non-clay minerals are quartz, feldspar and amphibole. 1. Surface Mineral Characteristics: The content of illite in the minerals varies greatly (40-70%) and decreases from north to south and lowest in the equator. Montmorillonite content is generally about 10%. Kaolinite content is generally 5-10%. The distribution of these two minerals is unknown
