Plus, Medical Journal, Vol. 16, No. 18 (1980) Budapest News: Neuropeptides have a central nervous system effect unlike their precursors, the pituitary and hypothalamic hormones. David de Wied, MD, of the Rodeo Magnus Institute of Pharmacology, Netherlands, said at the Twentieth International Physiological Conference. Over the past decade there has been considerable evidence that the pituitary and hypothalamic hormones are precursors with bioactive fragments that can affect brain function and are named neuropeptides. DeWalt, for example, describes procyanidins of the neuropeptide, such as ACTH, MSH, vasopressin, oxytocin and endorphins. These prostatins are related to behavioral fitness.
