《江西省岩石地层》是地矿部“八五”项目《全国地层多重划分对比研究》的子课题。项目组以现代地层学———地层多重划分的理论为指导，以岩石地层单位的划分为依据，对江西近百年来的大量地层资料及４００多个地层名称，进行了全面清理。经筛选，最终共确定江西正式岩石地层单位名称２１９个（含引用外省的少量岩石地层名称），其中群级单位２０个、组级１８１个、段级１８个，包括新建岩石地层单位１５个。
The “rock formation in Jiangxi Province” is a sub-topic of the “85th Five-Year Plan” project of the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources, “A Comparative Study of Multiple Stratigraphic Divisions in the Nation.” Guided by the theory of modern stratigraphy --- multiple stratigraphic division, the project team conducted extensive cleanup of a large amount of stratum data and more than 400 stratum names in Jiangxi in the past hundred years based on the division of rock stratum units. After screening, a total of 219 formal unit names of rock formations in Jiangxi Province were identified, including a small number of rock formations in other provinces, including 20 group units, 181 group stages and 18 stage units, including 15 newly-built lithostratigraphic units.
