殷墟作为第一批全国重点文物保护单位,从1961年起逐步提出并明确划定了重点保护区、一般保护区和建设控制地带的范围,并制定了具体的保护措施。20世纪80年代以来,安阳市先后在殷墟重点保护区的宫殿宗庙区、王陵区建成了殷墟博物苑和殷墟王陵遗址公园,对宫殿宗庙遗址、王陵区大墓和一批祭祀坑进行了积极的保护,殷墟遗址保存基本完好。
