Derbendi Khan dam in Iraq was built in 1964. In 1967, the upper bank near the dam slipped. In particular, the landslide on the right bank caused 2 million cubic meters of slide to block the diversion channel. When the reservoir was emptied in the autumn of that year, it was the first recorded movement of 2 meters to the front of the landslide; once it was drained in 1969, it moved 40 centimeters again; in 1970, it moved 20 centimeters. Since then, the annual clearance of water levels strictly limited to 445 meters above the elevation, to maintain landslide stability. A landslide monitoring system was established in 1976 that included five bored special bushing lengths ranging from 35 to 120 meters.
