With the development of the times, it is necessary to revise the related courses of life science teaching. An important strategy is to redesign introductory courses such as biology, chemistry and physics to better reflect the interdependence of their disciplines and to enhance students’ preparation for life sciences. This article presents a general medical chemistry teaching methodology that demonstrates the interdisciplinary nature of biology and chemistry. This innovative approach provides a model where discipline barriers can be significantly eliminated in undergraduate early natural science curricula. This revised course is divided into three main modules: (1) general chemistry, (2) medical approaches to inflammation, and (3) neuroscience linked to chemistry, biology and psychology. In line with our expectations, this modified common chemistry teaching method greatly enhanced students’ interest and bridged the gap between biology and chemistry. This provides a template for interdisciplinary teaching that sets the foundations for a 21st century scientist.
