1997年7月1日,巴基斯坦喀则·布拉塔水电站工地传来消息,中国水电八局与东方电机集团公司组成的联营体与数十个国际著名水电建设公司和联营体竞争中标的该电站工程 CO3标,经过半年来的“三通一平”前期工作准备,当天,正式拉开施工序幕。喀则·布拉塔水电工程是巴基斯坦仅次于塔巴拉电站的第二大工程,号称该国跨世纪工程,装机总容量145万 kW,由世界银行贷款,工程造价仅土建部分就有10亿多美元。属于国际招投标,建在印度河上的喀则·布拉塔水电工程分 CO1、CO2、CO3三个标,即闸坝、发电引水渠道和发电厂房枢
