营盘是古西域三十六国之一山国(墨山国)的都城。是东西横贯罗布泊地区通道上的一个交通重镇,肩负着扼守丝绸之路“楼兰道”西端咽喉的重任。其繁盛时代大体在西汉中晚期,约在公元4世纪前后废弃。其遗址为国务院核定并公布的第七批全国重点文物保护单位,由城址、烽健、寺院、农渠田畴、公共墓地组成,被专家学者称为“第二楼兰”。营盘墓地葬俗独特、葬品珍稀、遗物保存完好为国内外罕见,被评选为“1997年度全国十大考古新发现”之一。
Camp is the capital of the ancient country of thirty-six mountain country (Mount of Moses) of the capital.
