In June 1993, a preparatory meeting was held in Washington for the establishment of the World Energy Efficiency Association (WEEA). 46 official and non-governmental energy-efficiency organizations from developed and developing countries as well as international organizations (IEA and World Bank) attended the meeting. It is now widely recognized in the world that it is of paramount importance to meet the necessary energy needs of all countries while limiting their environmental impact to a minimum, improving the production of energy and enhancing the efficiency of its use, and will therefore seek to take concrete measures.
