This patent describes a method of selectively diffusing permeating diffusion membranes, purifying hydrogen, and separating hydrogen from hydrogen-containing gas mixtures. Hydrogen permeable membranes consist of palladium and a small amount of ruthenium. This patent provides a method for producing high purity hydrogen with relatively simple equipment.
