有机硅的工业品如硅树脂,硅漆等是由各种甲基和苯基氯硅烷经水解和缩聚得来的。由水解和缩聚条件的改变,生成产物的分子有了不同程度的环化;这样就影响了产品的性质。所以用同样成份的单体在不同条件下水解和缩聚,所得产品的性质有显著的不同。这是研究有机硅氧型化合物的人常常注意到的现象。用二甲基二氯硅烷为例,它水解和缩聚的过程如下:
