地质学是基础自然科学之一,属于理科。在建国前的高等学校里,地质系属于理学院,而矿冶系属于工学院。理学院与工学院的培养目标也有区别,大体上说,前者培养科学研究人员,后者培养工程技术人员。1952年院系调整后,我国成立了几所大型地质学院,毕业生主要从事找矿勘探地质工作,主要是工科地质工程技术人才。而综合性大学中的地质系也在一定程度上效仿地质工程技术人才培养,失去了对地质科学人才
Geology is one of the basic natural sciences, belonging to science. In the institutions of higher learning before the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Department of Geology belonged to the Faculty of Science and the Department of Mining and Metallurgy belongs to the Faculty of Engineering. There are also differences in the training objectives between the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering.
