中科院上海生物化学与细胞生物学研究所是我国生命科学领域一流的研究机构之一,该所以国际前沿、国家需求为目标,开展基础研究和应用开发研究,它拥有一支从事基础研究的高水平的专业研究人员和从事高新技术研究的技术人员队伍,他们为国家科学技术发展和经济建设作出了突出贡献。近年来该所涌现出一批优秀女性科研工作者,其中代表人物是首次在生殖系统中发现了一种抗菌肽基因,并且发表论文于国际权威学术杂志美国《Science》的张永莲研究员;中国科学院首届十大女杰汪垣研究员;上海市“三八”红旗手标兵、上海市人大代表王恩多研究员。
