翻译活动离不开文化的影响。翻译背后折射出的历史文化因素越来越得到学者们的重视。晚清时期的翻译因其背景的特殊性逐渐进入了学者的视野。本文着重以吴梼和周瘦鹃对马克·吐温短篇小说The Californian’s Tale的翻译为例,探讨翻译活动背后蕴含的历史文化因素,为人们对翻译作品的解读提供一定的启示和帮助。
Cultural activities can not be separated from translation activities. The historical and cultural factors reflected behind the translation are getting more and more scholars’ attention. Late Qing Dynasty’s translation gradually entered the scholar’s field of vision because of its special background. This paper focuses on the translation of The Californian’s Tale by Wu Chang and Zhou Shoujuan as an example to explore the historical and cultural factors behind the translation activities and provide some enlightenment and help for people to interpret the translated works.
