On October 14, the State Council executive meeting decided to perfect the universal service compensation mechanism for broadband telecommunications in rural and remote areas to narrow the digital divide between urban and rural areas. The meeting decided to increase investment in the central government and guide local strengthening of policies and financial support to encourage basic telecommunications, radio and television enterprises and private capital through competitive bidding and other equitable participation in rural broadband construction
