随着科学技术的发展以及各学科间的交叉渗透,有些关于地球物理方面的新的英文专业词汇的译法很不统一,特别是诸如近年出现人们所常见的“asperity model”和“barriersmodel”两个词汇,其确切含义和两者的区别,很容易混淆,笔者为此曾询问过一些外国学者,也多说不太清楚,后经同原词汇提出者交谈后,方才明白。以此类推,特对某些较易混淆的词汇含义及其译法,提出商榷如下:1.“fracture mechanics”,应译为“断裂力学”。地震学界现有一小部分科研人员译为“破裂力学”,似不贴切。虽然“frac-
