1998年瑞典军队订购了120辆“豹”式2型作为新一代的主战坦克。这种坦克是以德国“豹”2A5为基础进行多项改进的。在Strv-122的国产化计划中,瑞典根据许可证将“豹”2A5更换为本国型号的炮塔并且对其他系统进行了升级。该型坦克装备了法国的“Galix”主动防护系统和改进的火控系统。瑞典为“豹”2和Strv-122研制了新型的射程达2000米以上的HE-T穿甲弹。
In 1998 the Swedish army ordered 120 “Leopard” type 2 as a new generation of main battle tanks. This tank is based on the German “Leopard” 2A5 based on a number of improvements. In the Strv-122 localization program, Sweden replaced the Panther 2A5 with a turret of its own type under license and upgraded other systems. The tank is equipped with the French “Galix” active protection system and an improved fire control system. Sweden has developed a new HE-T armor piercing bullet with a range of 2,000 meters and more for Leopard 2 and Strv-122.
