It is suggested that 1500 kcal (6276 kJ) be used as the minimum energy standard for daily intake to provide sufficient amounts of trace elements to the elderly. This reference has been used to assess the adequacy of energy intake in the elderly. The purpose of this article is to examine the elderly who participated in the SENECA study. To assess what kind of energy standards to meet the needs of most elderly trace elements. Subjects and Methods The data in this paper is from the follow-up study of SENECA. 486 elderly men and 519 women were selected from the 9 countries involved in the study, with an average age of 77.2 (74-79) years. Dietary information was obtained through a dietary review and nutrient intakes were calculated using a local diet table, specifically iron, VitB_1, VitB_ (12) and VitB_6 associated with energy intake. Use the minimum Dutch requirement as a reference for inadequate intake of trace elements and compare with 2/3 of the recommended U.S. dietary supply (RDA).
