两湖地区系一个比较完整的区域单位和区域研究对象。湖北、湖南两省在地理区域、行政区域、文化区域上都具有同一性或相似性。作为连接长江流域经济大动脉东西纽带的两湖地区,其区域中心城市如汉口、武昌、长沙、衡阳、岳阳等地近现代报刊业相当发达,而近百年来两湖地区新闻史研究成果也时有所见。总的来看,两湖地区新闻史料性研究成果有一些,但有一定水平的专著或文章很少;个案研究有一些,有的文章在考证方面也有一定的力度,但综合性分析的研究成果少;表面性的论述文章有一些,但不少文章堆砌史料有余,论述不足,视角不新颖,视野不开阔。近代两湖地区新闻史研究整体理论层次不高,仍处于史料整理层面上,缺乏有分量的力作。

The research of news history in the two lakes and lakes in modern history is not high in overall theory and is still at the level of historical data arrangement and lacks a powerful masterpiece.
