Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a clinical syndrome characterized by fever, hypotension, rash, skin desquamation and multiple organ system dysfunction, first described and named by Todd et al. In 1978. In recent years, there have been a lot of reports on the related research around the syndrome in the world. The incidence has also been increasing year by year. By the end of 1981, over 1,500 cases had been reported. This review summarizes the foreign literature and introduces some issues such as the etiology, pathogenesis and clinical aspects of TSS so as to arouse the attention of domestic medical workers. Etiology and predisposing factors have now been identified, and the pathogens of TSS are plasma coagulase-positive
