Sulfadiazine silver (SD-Ag) / polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogels were prepared by a combination of e-beam electron irradiation and freeze-thaw cycles. First of all, the effect of preparation process of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel on its performance was studied. Tensile properties, water absorption, SEM and FTIR were used to investigate the effects of PVA concentration (5% -15% of total mass), freeze-thaw and radiation treatment on the tensile strength, elongation at break , Water absorption, gel content and microstructure. The results showed that with the increase of PVA concentration, the tensile strength of PVA hydrogels increased. When the concentration of PVA is 15% and the radiation dose is 25 k Gy, the tensile strength of PVA hydrogel prepared by three methods: radiation alone, radiation freeze-thaw and freeze-thaw irradiation respectively are 0.023, 0.048 and 0.028 MPa, The rates were 95%, 45% and 63%, respectively, indicating that the mechanical strength of freeze-thaw treated hydrogels increased and the water absorption rate decreased. Then, the appropriate preparation process was selected and the SD-Ag (silver sulfadiazine) was added into the PVA hydrogels. The antibacterial activity of SD-Ag / PVA hydrogel was investigated. The bacteriostatic activity test showed that the antibacterial activity of SD-Ag / PVA hydrogels increased with the increase of SD-Ag content, and its antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli) Antibacterial activity of blue positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus).
