The naming of phosphorus-containing organic compounds is a very important and complex issue. Especially since the 1940s, the use of phosphorus organic compounds is becoming more and more widespread. New compounds are synthesized almost daily. Therefore, it is clearly necessary to correctly name these compounds as a naming system that is both editable, straightforward and uniform. Unfortunately, until now, there is no unified international rule to follow. The Geneva nomenclature adopted in 1892 basically did not deal with this issue. It is only mentioned in its Article 34 rule that its traditional names for phosphine, arsine, (cousin) and the like remain the same. International Organic Nomenclature adopted by the Liege International Chemical Conference in 1930 and Rome in 1938
