汉字是当今世界上最古老的文字,也是当今世界唯一的表意文字。纵观汉字的发展,总趋势是从繁到简,从图画性到符号性。但不论怎么发展变化,汉字的内在精神并没有变,始终被一脉相承地继承与发展,具有旺盛的生命力。然而,到了近代,随着中国与世界文化的大幅接轨,汉字受到了前所未有的冲击,在严峻的现实挑战下,倔强的汉字正以自己博大的胸怀,一方面一直保持着自己的本质,一方面又勇于吸纳其他文字的长处,从而使汉字作为古老而又焕发新意的文字依然屹立在世界的东方大地上。
