一九五四年元旦的前夕,拥有二百三十多位团员的「德意志民主共和国国家人民艺术歌舞团」,应邀来到我国作巡回访问演出.虽然这个艺术歌舞团还很年轻,才成立了两年多,可是由于德国统一社会党和德意志民主共和国政府的关心和领导,由于它来自人民而又为人民服务,不仅继承了德国民族艺术的优秀传统,同时还赋予这种传统以新的生命,因此它已具有卓越的造就.团员们大多原是业余艺术活动的积极分子和天才演员,其中百分之七十是工人出身.他们经常在民主德国各地演出,去年九月间并曾不顾迫害,到西德去表演.
